Jason Mamoa is an American actor. He was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2012, along with the entire cast of the fantasy series Game of Thrones. He himself played ‘Khal Drogo’ in it. Momoa made his acting debut in 1999 as “Jason Ioane” in the action series Baywatch Hawaii. His big screen debut followed in 2004, as Navarro in the movie comedy Johnson Family Vacation.
Momoa was born the son of a photographer and painter and grew up in Norwalk. His father is of Native Hawaiian descent and his mother is of German, Irish and Native American descent.
Momoa became a model at the age of nineteen. He was cast in 1999 to play “Jason Ioane” in the Baywatch series, which was about to go on as Baywatch Hawaii.
This started his acting career. After the series ended two seasons later, he played the same character again in the 2003 television movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding. Momoa made its big screen debut in 2004. He was then seen as ‘Navarro’ in the movie comedy Johnson Family Vacation.
After a role on the lone season of the American soap opera North Shore, he was cast in 2005 to play the dreadlocked Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis. After this character was introduced in Season 2, he remained part of the cast until the series ended after Season 5. Momoa grew wider and more muscular over time and was thus cast in roles for which it was desirable. He played Conan the Barbarian in the 2011 film of the same name, warrior ‘Khal Drogo’ in the fantasy series Game of Thrones and Aquaman in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and Aquaman.
